About this test

Most bad pet decisions are made from a photograph. The animal is adorable, the reality is a 15-year commitment, a specific lighting requirement or a daily salad forever — and the animal is the one who pays when it does not work out.

So this quiz is deliberately honest. It matches you on the things that actually determine whether it works: hours per day, rental restrictions, travel habits, tolerance for noise and mess, and how long a commitment you are truly ready for. Every result states the real lifespan, the real setup cost and the thing owners most commonly regret. Reptiles are the fastest-growing pet category right now, and a lot of that growth comes with avoidable welfare mistakes — so we name them.

For entertainment and self-reflection only — not a medical or psychological diagnosis.

The 6 possible results

🐕 A Dog

You want a dog, and more importantly you appear willing to pay what a dog actually costs — which is not money, it is freedom. Dogs are the only pet on this list that will restructure your entire week.

🐈 A Cat

A cat is your match. You want genuine company without your life being reorganised around it, and cats are the best-designed answer to that specific want.

🦎 A Bearded Dragon or Gecko

A lizard suits you — most likely a bearded dragon (interactive, tolerant of handling) or a leopard gecko (smaller, simpler, nocturnal). You are part of a real shift: reptile ownership is the fastest-growing pet category, up around 38% in households since 2016, and Gen Z and millennials make up roughly 62% of reptile keepers. The reasons are practical — no noise, no walks, no pet deposit in most rentals, and no allergens.

🐍 A Ball Python or Corn Snake

A snake genuinely fits your life — a corn snake if you are new (hardy, forgiving, reliable feeder) or a ball python if you want something calmer and heavier in the hand.

🐢 A Tortoise

A tortoise suits you, which says something about you: almost nobody chooses an animal that will likely outlive them.

🐇 Rabbits or Guinea Pigs

A pair of guinea pigs or rabbits suits you best — and note the word pair. Both species are genuinely social and keeping one alone is considered a welfare problem in much of Europe; in Switzerland it is actually illegal.
